| New York law curbing local police cooperation with ICE takes effect today August 25, 2026. Manhattan. Abc 7 NY. A new state law in New York prohibiting local police agencies from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement takes effect Tuesday August 25, setting up a potential legal showdown between the state and Nassau County, which has not yet committed to complying with the measure. The legislation, known as the Local Cops Local Crimes Act, bars local government agencies from entering into or maintaining agreements with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to carry out civil immigration enforcement and detain immigrants in local jails. Sonya Massey’s killer Sean Grayson dies in US prison August 25, 2026. USA. BBC. Sean Grayson, the white US police officer convicted of murdering a black woman, Sonya Massey, during an incident at her home in 2024, has died in prison at age 32. Grayson shot dead Massey, 36, during an exchange that took place after she reported a suspected intruder at her residence in Illinois. The killing reignited the debate about police brutality in the US. Justice Department considers bringing charges against ICE officer in Minneapolis shooting August 26, 2026. Texas. Associated Press. An Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer charged in Minnesota with shooting and wounding a man in Minneapolis then lying about it could be released from Texas jail if a federal judge does not intervene Illinois promised to protect immigrants. Local officials helped deport them anyway. August 25, 2026. Opinion. ICE informant. In over a third of Illinois counties, cops, sheriffs, and even prosecutors helped federal immigration agents route at least 150 people into the deportation system since Trump returned to office, despite a state law intended to prevent such collaboration. United States Capitol Police on Tuesday arrested a California man with what they said was a guillotine in the bed of a pickup truck parked near the U.S. Capitol complex. |
| Mothers Against Police Brutality (MAPB) Mothers Against Police Brutality (MAPB) is a Dallas-based multi-generational, multi-racial, and multi-ethnic coalition uniting people nationally, to hold law enforcement agencies more accountable. Collette Flanagan founded MAPB in 2013 after her son, Clinton Allen, an unarmed young Black man in custody, was shot to death by a Dallas police officer.
