6th Annual Clinton R. Allen Speak Out

Washington, D.C. – March 22, 2025 – Mothers Against Police Brutality (MAPB) announces the  6th Annual Clinton R. Allen Speak Out, which will feature testimony from 17 families from 11 different cities across the nation and the D.C. area,  who have personally suffered the loss of a loved one to deadly police brutality. The event will take place from 10am-2pm at the Mayflower Hotel (1127 Connecticut Ave NW) in Washington, D.C., honoring the life of Clinton R. Allen, a 25-year-old Black father of twin boys who was unjustly killed by a Dallas police officer in March 2013. Mr. Allen, who was unarmed, was shot once in his raised arm, five times in the chest, and once at close range in the back.

Press is invited to attend and speak with any of the families testifying, or to interview them on Friday before the event.

“In memory of my murdered son, I am proud to be leading the MAPB Legacy Fellows to Washington, D.C. to ensure that those directly impacted by police violence have a seat at the table where policies on policing are formed,” said Collette Fanagan, President of MAPB and Mother of the late Clinton R. Allen. “Those who write and pass legislation need to hear firsthand how broken systems and egregious doctrines like Qualified Immunity devastate families and communities when police kill unjustly. We are here to push for real change, not just talk.”

Seventeen families from across the country, including California, Florida, Ohio, Texas, and the Washington, D.C. area, will share their firsthand experiences of loss and injustice. Their testimonies will be presented to a distinguished panel of experts, including:

  • Niaz Kasravi, The Avalan Institute
  • Victor Dempsey, NAACP Legal Defense Fund
  • Rev. Dr. Michael Waters, professor, author, Senior Pastor Abundant Life AME Church

The Speak Out will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. A livestream will broadcast the event to audiences nationwide, ensuring that these critical stories reach policymakers, activists, and the broader public. The event will also be recorded and archived as part of MAPB’s ongoing efforts to document the devastating impact nationwide of police violence on families and communities.

Following the scheduled testimony, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., additional directly impacted individuals and families in attendance will have the opportunity to videotape their statements. MAPB will provide each participant with a link to their video, which will also be shared on MAPB’s website, social media platforms, and other media formats.

The 2025 Speak Out is a call to action for lawmakers, advocates, and the public to confront the reality of police violence and demand change. By amplifying the voices of those directly affected, MAPB continues its mission to seek justice and accountability for families who have lost loved ones to police brutality.
